  • Asthma and Sever’s Disease Symptoms Helped by Chiropractic – A Case Study

Asthma and Sever’s Disease Symptoms Helped by Chiropractic - A Case Study

The Asian Pacific Chiropractic Journal published the results of a case study in their April 2023 edition documenting the case of a child with asthma and Sever’s Disease being helped by chiropractic. According to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, “Sever’s disease is the most common cause of heel pain in growing children, especially those who play sports or exercise regularly. Also known as calcaneal apophysitis, Sever’s disease occurs when the growth plate in the back of the heel becomes inflamed and painful.”

This study begins by explaining, “Sever’s disease (SD) is of common occurrence in the paediatric [sic] population and the condition has been described as one which causes pain in the posterior heel and is more common in children from 8 to 15 years of age.” The study continues, “Children and adolescents engaged in high rates of physical activity seem to be at a greater risk of developing the condition, which is more common in boys.”

In describing the prevalence of asthma, the authors report, “Asthma is a global issue that affects all age groups. In the paediatric [sic] population an increase in prevalence has been observed in recent years. Current paediatric [sic] asthma prevalence is stated to be around 7%, with school-age children having a prevalence of 8.6%.”

In this case, a 9-year-old boy was brought to the chiropractor by his parents. The parents were seeking a second opinion for their son’s heel pains which had been previously diagnosed as bilateral Sever’s disease by the boy’s pediatrician who recommended physical therapy. After two months without relief, the boy’s parents decided to bring their son to a chiropractor.

The parents also revealed that their son had been suffering with asthma since he was 6-months-old and had been hospitalized for his condition. Over the years, the boy was prescribed a variety of medications to treat his asthma. Unfortunately, his asthma was still not well controlled.

A chiropractic examination was performed which included a postural analysis, paraspinal infrared thermography, a gait analysis, spinal palpation, and spinal x-rays. The results of the exam revealed multiple spinal abnormalities and subluxations. With these findings, specific forms of chiropractic care were recommended, and with parental consent, care was started.

As care progressed, the study documented that the boy had significant reductions in his heel pain. In addition, they also documented the improvement in his asthma, having progressed from a status of “poorly controlled asthma” to a level of “well-controlled asthma.” The study also documented improvements in the boy’s gait and posture, as demonstrated by follow-up examinations and x-rays.

In their conclusion, the authors noted, “The results from this case report revealed that a multimodal program of chiropractic care with the goal of correcting ‘global’ spinal subluxations was effective at improving Sever’s disease, and asthma in a 9y [sic] male patient. Also, improvements were observed in certain gait parameters in the child …”

  • Ménière’s Disease Helped by Chiropractic

    Ménière’s Disease Helped by Chiropractic

The Journal of Upper Cervical Chiropractic Research published the results of a case study on March 21, 2023, documenting the resolution under chiropractic care of long-standing Meniere’s Disease and multiple associated symptoms.

The National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders defines this condition by stating, “Meniere’s disease is a disorder of the inner ear that causes severe dizziness (vertigo), ringing in the ears (tinnitus), hearing loss, and a feeling of fullness or congestion in the ear.” They estimate that approximately 615,000 people in the United States are currently diagnosed with Meniere’s disease and that 45,500 cases are newly diagnosed every year.

In this case, a 48-year-old woman, a retired nurse, went to the chiropractor. The woman had been suffering with Meniere’s Disease for many years, as well as a long list of associated symptoms from this condition. Her condition was initially only in one ear. Eventually, her other ear also started to have problems.

The woman’s history involved a number of accidents and incidents including, as a child, falling off her bike requiring head and knee stitches, falling off a horse and being kicked in the jaw, and falling out of a tree onto her back, leaving her unable to walk for two days. As an adult, she passed out in her kitchen and hit her forehead on a highchair, then the back of her head on the floor, knocking her unconscious. She had also been involved in multiple car accidents.

The woman had a variety of symptoms including vertigo episodes with nausea and vomiting, hearing loss, tinnitus, dizziness, imbalance, hearing distortion, brain fog, severe sweating, severe depression, anxiety with panic attacks, IBS, TMJ dysfunction, migraines, headaches, chronic fatigue, neck pain and radiating low back pain.

Because the woman was suffering with so many symptoms, her MD’s dismissed her as being a hypochondriac or someone just looking for drugs. She recalled her story by saying, “I have been called lots of things. Hypochondriac was one, liar, drug seeker, psychotic, and a hermit. Hard to explain how the medical world left me to die. I thought I was dying every day. I was told to learn to live with it. I can’t describe it, but it is awful. Meniere’s patients don’t realize that this is a massive autonomic dysfunction problem. They think that either somehow Meniere’s is causing all of this without realizing these are just more symptoms of the bigger problem or they have zero clue that all of this is connected because the medical community tells them there is nothing wrong.”

Specific forms of chiropractic care were started to correct the subluxations that were detected during an examination. Because the patient lived many miles from the original chiropractor, care was also given by additional chiropractors closer to the woman’s home who used the same approach.

Over the course of care, it was recorded that the woman improved in all aspects of her previous conditions. The original chiropractor, and author of this study kept in touch with this woman to monitor the progress of her care. He also performed a follow-up examination to verify the improvement. In recording the woman’s overall improvement, the author stated in his conclusion, “Chiropractic care had resolved all her complaints except hearing loss though it did improve.”

  • Subluxation is a Common Term in Healthcare

Subluxation is a Common Term in Healthcare

The Asian-Pacific Chiropractic Journal published a report in their 2023 first quarter journal showing that the term “subluxation” is not only a key part of the chiropractic terminology, but also well used in other health professions. The title of the report is, “The Chiropractic Subluxation: Medical evidence in support of the subluxation construct.”

The report authors begin by stating, “This presentation serves to demonstrate the widespread use and acceptance of the term subluxation.” They continue, “The ‘vertebral subluxation’ is one of two keystones in chiropractic and has been for its entire 127-year history since its foundation. The other term is ‘adjustment’ which may be identified as a refined and specific form of the more generalized generic term, ‘manipulation’.”

Although the term “subluxation” may have slightly different interpretations in the medical field when compared to chiropractic, the chiropractic profession uses this term more than all others. The more exact term, vertebral subluxation, is meant to not just mean a bone out of proper alignment in the spine, but also the neurological effects of the spinal misalignment. Given the vast number of mechanisms the subluxation can affect on human physiology, the most exact term using in chiropractic is the “vertebral subluxation complex.”

The report authors point out that the other health professions including medicine, have over 500 synonyms, euphemisms, or other terms related to the basic constructs of the chiropractic use of the term subluxation. Many of the medically used terms are based upon research supporting the basic chiropractic premise. The report authors point out, “There is noted evidence of medical use of chiropractic concepts particularly in European medicine, with many medical journals incorporating papers on these concepts, far more than in English language medical journals.”

The authors reference many medical texts, including Gray’s Anatomy, that clearly speak to the basic understanding of the subluxation. Many of these books even acknowledge chiropractic as the major healthcare system addressing subluxation.

The report emphasizes the importance of unique terminology for any health profession to continue to offer a unique service to the public. “The emergence of any new health profession may be identified by its unique title. Similarly, its uniqueness may be identified by its distinct use of particular terminology otherwise it could hardly be regarded as being different to any other profession. Consequently, chiropractic has developed two particularly distinctive terms; the ‘vertebral subluxation’ and the ‘vertebral adjustment’.”

After reviewing all the various professions that use either the term subluxation, or a similar term that has the same meaning, the authors of this report concluded, “The evidence we have presented indicates that medicine, osteopathy, and physiotherapy have all used the term ‘subluxation’ in the chiropractic sense. However, the more appropriate, and inclusive descriptive term of vertebral subluxation complex is widely adopted in chiropractic and the WHO ICD-10.”

Dr. Robert Braile, a chiropractor and past president of the International Chiropractors Association, commented on this report by saying, “The bottom line is that subluxation is a scientific, provable, and clinically important entity in healthcare. Most professions either directly use the term subluxation with a similar meaning as chiropractors, or they use a different term that has almost an identical meaning. Regardless of what term is used, it is important that vertebral subluxation is addressed and corrected.”

  • Study Shows Car Accident Causes Loss of Neck Curve and is Corrected by Chiropractic

Study Shows Car Accident Causes Loss of Neck Curve and is Corrected by Chiropractic

The Journal of Physical Therapy Science published the results of a case study on March 1, 2023, showing that an automobile accident caused a loss of normal neck curvature. The study also documented the restoration of neck curve with chiropractic care.

When viewed from the side, a neck x-ray should show that there is a smooth forward curvature. This curve helps the neck absorb shock and helps properly support the head. Studies have shown that a loss of the normal forward curvature can contribute to a variety of health issues. There have been many case studies in scientific journals that document chiropractic care improving or restoring the normal curve, and therefore having a positive impact on health and quality of life.

There have been many cases where a patient has gone to a chiropractor after an automobile accident and their x-rays showed a loss of neck curvature. In most of these cases, x-rays were taken after the accident so it was difficult to prove that the accident caused the loss of neck curve as opposed to the curve having been reduced prior to the accident.

The case provided in this study offered a unique perspective because the patient was under chiropractic care months before their accident, as well as after their accident. In each instance, initial x-rays were taken at the onset of care, as well as a follow-up to monitor the progress.

In this case, a 16-year-old boy originally went to the chiropractor for lower back pain not related to any sort of accident. A chiropractic examination and x-rays were performed. It was demonstrated on x-rays that there was a loss of neck curvature. Chiropractic care was started to address the spinal subluxations including the loss of a normal neck curve. Several months later, a second set of x-rays were taken which showed that the boy’s neck curve had dramatically improved as had his original pain.

Months later, after the original chiropractic care, the boy was involved in an automobile accident. He returned to the chiropractor and received another examination and new spinal x-rays. This time, the x-rays showed that the improvements that were gained were lost and the boy’s neck had once again lost most of the normal forward curvature.

Specific forms of chiropractic care were again started to address the boy’s new issues from the automobile accident and the new loss of neck curvature. Once again, after several months of chiropractic care, follow-up x-rays were able to verify that the boy’s neck had again improved to a near-normal curvature. Additionally, a third set of follow-up x-rays were taken months later which showed that the curve improvement was still present.

The study authors commented, “This case illustrates how a whiplash event occurring during a motor vehicle collision subluxated the cervical spine.” With the documentation provided by pre and post x-rays for both care rendered before and after the automobile accident, it is possible to show that a car accident can indeed cause a loss of curvature, and that specific chiropractic care can help correct it.

  • Resolution of Otitis Media & Developmental Delays Following Chiropractic Care in a Boy with Birth Trauma

Resolution of Otitis Media & Developmental Delays Following Chiropractic Care in a Boy with Birth Trauma

The title above is from a case study published on February 21, 2023, in the Journal of Pediatric, Maternal & Family Health that documents the correction of ear infections and developmental delays because of chiropractic care.

The author of this case study begins by noting that “Speech and language development are useful indicators of a child’s overall development and cognitive ability and is related to school success.” She continued, “Speech and language disorders are the most common developmental problems among preschool children.”

One of the reasons noted for language delay can be hearing loss caused by otitis media with effusion (OME). This is a condition where fluid collects in the middle ear without any signs or symptoms of an acute ear infection, and typically develops after there has been an acute ear infection with fever and pain.

In this case, a 12-month-old boy was brought to the chiropractor. The boy’s major issues were altered crawling and developmental delays. The history revealed that the boy was born 5 days early by an emergency cesarean section delivery. Due to lung and blood issues, the baby boy was kept in the hospital in a neonatal intensive care unit for seven days after his birth. During his hospital stay, a series of other medical issues developed which required medications and one surgery.

After his initial problems, it was noticed over the next several months that the child was having problems crawling. As he got older, it was noted that he had significant delays in his speech ability as well as many other developmental benchmarks. His parents attempted to seek help for their son in the form of developmental therapy and speech therapy.

After a chiropractic examination, the boy was diagnosed with vertebral subluxation complex (VSC). Chiropractic care (appropriate to the boy’s age and size) was started to address the subluxations.

The author explains the purpose of subluxation care in cases like this by stating, ” The principles of the vertebral subluxation are as follows: The body is a self-regulating, self-maintaining organism; The nervous system controls and coordinates all functions of the body; The spine and vertebrae house and protect the nervous system; Vertebral subluxations can occur and interfere with the function of the nervous system; Reducing and/or correcting vertebral subluxations allows the nervous system to function better and allows the fullest expression of life.”

The study reports that, over time, the boy’s speech improved and his vocabulary increased. The boy also improved in his motor skills and was able to crawl better. The boy’s sleeping improved and he was more responsive to his mother’s voice. The fluid in his ears cleared and he continued to progress and improve at the writing of this study.

In her conclusion, the author wrote, “This case illustrates how chiropractic can be an option for children not only suffering with OME and are experiencing developmental delays but can help with other childhood issues or diseases. Alternative methods should be researched thoroughly that are low risk like chiropractic before seeking other methods of treatment such as antibiotics or surgery, which would be considered higher risk.”

  • Patient with Neck Surgery Still Able to be Helped by Chiropractic According to Study

Patient with Neck Surgery Still Able to be Helped by Chiropractic According to Study

A case study published on February 4, 2023, in Cureus, and on the U.S. National Library of Medicine’s National Center for Biotechnology Information documented the improvement under chiropractic care of a patient suffering from neck pain who had previously had significant neck surgery.

Neck surgery is a serious procedure. There is ongoing discussion in healthcare concerning the effectiveness of neck surgery in the long term. Studies have shown that patients who seek chiropractic care first for musculoskeletal pain such as neck or back pain, are less likely to have spinal surgery. However, there are many patients who receive spinal surgery first, and only seek chiropractic care after ongoing problems cannot be resolved medically.

In this case, a 66-year-old woman sought chiropractic care due to her incapacitating neck pain. The woman also had a significant head tilt and was suffering with muscle spasms and headaches. She was getting progressively worse over the prior six months and received no relief from the acetaminophen and tramadol she was taking, or the physical therapy she was receiving.

The woman’s history showed that, at age 14, she suddenly developed severe neck pain, torticollis, and headaches which were made worse by sneezing or neck movements and were slightly better if she held her head with her hands. She was eventually diagnosed with “rotatory instability” of the top two bones in her neck. She was first unsuccessfully treated using 24-hour halo traction for six months. She was then placed in a body cast which ran from her head to her hips, leaving only her face exposed for an additional six months. However, she continued to get worse. She did not receive, nor was she offered any chiropractic care at that time.

Finally, by age 16, the girl received neck fusion surgery of the first and second bone in the neck. After the surgery, the girl experienced severe bilateral lower extremity weakness and was unable to walk, requiring the use of a wheelchair for three months. By six months after the surgery, the girl had reportedly made a slow but near full recovery. She continued to have some abnormal sensations in the lower half of her body and in her legs.

Years later at age 60, the woman tripped and fell. Afterwards, she developed neck pain, headaches, and involuntary jerking neck movements. These problems continued to get worse, even resulting in a visit to the ER. None of the medications or therapies she received over the next few years seemed to help, so she finally decided to seek chiropractic care.

After a chiropractic examination and CT scans of her neck, specific and appropriate forms of chiropractic care were started. After only one week of care, the patient reported that her pain reduced on a 1 to 10 scale, from a 7/10 down to only a 3/10. Additionally, the sensation she was having in her lower body had disappeared.

After only three weeks of chiropractic care, the woman reported complete resolution of her headaches, and near complete resolution of her neck pain. A follow-up examination three months later showed that the woman had maintained her overall improvement.

In their conclusion the authors wrote, “This case presents an older woman with chronic progressively worsening neck pain and headache and a history of posterior surgical fusion of C1/2 who improved with multimodal chiropractic therapies including SMT.”

  • Resolution of Breastfeeding Difficulties Following Chiropractic Care

Resolution of Breastfeeding Difficulties Following Chiropractic Care

The title above comes from a January 16, 2023, review study published in the Journal of Pediatric, Maternal & Family Health Chiropractic. This paper looked at numerous previous studies on chiropractic care for mothers and infants with breastfeeding problems.

The author begins by noting that “Breastfeeding is the process of feeding a mother’s breast milk to her infant, either directly from the breast or by expressing the milk from the breast and bottle-feeding it to the infant. Breastfeeding provides essential nutrition.”

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s, Division of Nutrition, Physical Activity, and Obesity, “Breastfeeding has health benefits for both babies and mothers. Breast milk provides a baby with ideal nutrition and supports growth and development. Breastfeeding can also help protect baby and mom against certain illnesses and diseases.”

The author of this review study searched a number of scientific publications and databases for studies relating to chiropractic and breastfeeding issues. In his search, the author found 26 case reports, 12 articles, and 3 literature reviews that were related to this subject.

In the 26 cases reports, the common factor was that there was some sort of birth trauma followed by sub-optimal breastfeeding. In several of the case studies reviewed, the author found that the inability to properly breastfeed would lead to a lack of weight gain and a failure to thrive situation.

In these case studies, the infants ranged in age from just a few days to just over 3 months of age. All had trouble breastfeeding and all had the situation either improve or completely resolve with chiropractic care. In the case studies, the chiropractic care rendered was focused on correction of vertebral subluxations. Subluxations happen when vertebrae in the spine are not properly positioned causing some form of nerve system interference.

The author of this review did note, however, that although there were published case studies that showed breastfeeding improvement with chiropractic, there was a lack of strong clinical trials on this subject.

One of the other papers included in this review stated that there was a lack of clinical data and addressed the issue when the author of that paper stated, “There is a lack of high-level evidence available on the effects of chiropractic intervention, a situation partly due to the ethical issue of assigning infants with suboptimal breastfeeding into a high level randomized controlled trial where some children would be allocated to a non-treatment group.” In other words, the problem with having clinical trials is that some babies would receive care that could help them, while others would be left to suffer for the purpose of a study.

In the review study conclusion, the author summed up the findings by saying, “Breastfeeding is beneficial for an infant’s health as well as for the mother in the long and short-term. Chiropractic care has the potential to help assist in improving suboptimal breastfeeding.”

  • Severe Autistic Spectrum Disorder Improved with Chiropractic

Severe Autistic Spectrum Disorder Improved with Chiropractic

The Journal of Pediatric, Maternal & Family Health Chiropractic published the results of a case study on February 1, 2023, that documented the improvement under chiropractic care of a child who was suffering with severe Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

This study begins by noting that ASD usually begins before the age of 30 months. The study defines it by saying, “Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is defined by abnormal or impaired development of communication and interaction with others, as well as a marked limitation in interests and activities.”

They report that the Center for Disease Control estimated that 2.24% or 1 in 45 U.S. children in 2014 were diagnosed with ASD. They point out that the number has been steadily increasing as in from 2011 to 2013 there were 1.25%, or 1 in 80 children in the U.S. diagnosed with ASD. Additionally, boys are diagnosed with 75% of all cases.

In this case, a three-year-old boy was brought to the chiropractor for help with a variety of issues related to ASD. Six months prior, the boy was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder by a psychologist. The boy’s parents reported that their son did not speak. He was on a liquid diet because he was unable to eat solid food due to his inability to chew or feed himself. The boy did not like being touched, and was experiencing difficulties with both sleeping and constipation.

The boy’s parents also reported that their son had not gained any weight in two years. He was attending a special needs school, but upon arrival each day, he would develop anxiety to the point of vomiting excessively. He was getting speach therapy which did not seem to be helping.

A chiropractic examination was performed which rendered a diagnosis of spinal subluxations. The goal of the chiropractic care was to reduce the subluxations through specific chiropractic adjustments in an attempt to reduce the severity of the symptoms the boy was experiencing from his ASD. The initial recommendation was to have the boy seen three times per week for the first two months.

Following the boy’s first adjustment, his parents reported that their son had slept extremely well and that he had been calm for two days straight for the first time ever. Within the first week of care, the boy started making eye contact with the chiropractor and staff and had learned how to give a “high five.”

By the third visit, the boy was becoming comfortable with the chiropractor touching him to give the adjustments. The boy’s parents reported improvements in his constipation, behavior, and sleep habits. They also reported that he had been trying to say his first words.

Over a period of 21 additional visits, it was reported that the boy had learned nine new words and was now starting to repeat words he was hearing. As care continued, the boy showed improvements with his constipation, his sleep, his demeanor, and was becoming social and curious with other children.

In the study conclusion, the authors wrote, “The chiropractic care of a 3-year-old patient diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder is presented. Significant improvement in sleeping, behavior, sensitivity to touch, eye contact, hypertonicity of musculature, retained primitive reflexes, vocabulary expansion, and parroting was achieved. It is feasible that chiropractic care can influence Autism Spectrum Disorder…”

  • Study Shows Chiropractic Most Effective Care for Lower Back Pain

Study Shows Chiropractic Most Effective Care for Lower Back Pain

A study published on January 03, 2023, in the Journal of Orthopedics and Sports Medicine showed that chiropractic care was more effective in helping people with lower back pain (LBP) than usual medical care or conservative care. According to the authors, the purpose of the study is to “…describe  the  current  evidence  for  the  effectiveness  of chiropractic spinal manipulation in comparison to the conservative intervention on Low Back Pain (LBP).”

The study researchers reviewed scientific literature on chiropractic care related to lower back problems. The researchers used the PubMed database and searched for the terms chiropractic and lower back pain. They reviewed the studies they found for both the results that they described and for the scientific strength of the articles in the various journals.

In much of this paper, the authors interchange the terms “Spinal Manipulative Therapy (SMT), Mobilization, Manipulation, and Spinal Manipulation.” Within the chiropractic profession, specific forms of “adjustments” are the more common term used by chiropractors as manipulation can relate to procedures not commonly performed as part of chiropractic care.

The authors do note how widely accepted chiropractic is for lower back issues. “Spinal manipulation or mobilization is recommended as an effective therapy for acute, subacute, and chronic LBP by four guidelines in total which include National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), The American College of Physicians Pain Society, European guidelines for chronic LBP, and European guidelines for acute BP.”

In their results, the authors reported that “There is strong evidence that spinal manipulation or mobilization is a viable therapy choice for people suffering with subacute and chronic LBP. Evidence of moderate quality shows spinal manipulation or mobilization is a viable therapy choice for individuals with acute LBP and older adults with subacute and chronic LBP.”

In this study, the authors also pointed out how safe chiropractic is. “When it comes to adopting the principle of ‘do no harm’, chiropractic has a significant advantage. Chiropractic, and especially SMT, is typically safe, according to different research literature. Research suggests that the risk of major harm from SMT is incredibly minimal. Almost all of the side effects associated with SMT are temporary and small. Overall, SMT has a high safety rating, particularly in comparison to alternative therapeutic methods.”

In the study discussion and conclusion, the authors report on the effectiveness of chiropractic for lower back pain by stating, “SMT which is delivered by chiropractors, is a regularly utilized treatment that has consistently excellent effects in terms of pain intensity and functionality in a civil population.” They continue, “Either chiropractic spinal manipulation alone or integrative care is effective for patients with acute, subacute, and chronic LBP in reducing pain, increasing range of motion, improving disability, enhancing general health and returning to work. Chiropractic care seems to be more effective than conservative intervention for LBP in reducing pain, increasing range of motion in lumbar spine, improving disability status, and enhancing general health.”

  • Resolution of Meniere’s and Restoration of Hearing Under Chiropractic Care

Resolution of Meniere's and Restoration of Hearing Under Chiropractic Care

On December 19, 2022, the Journal of Upper Cervical Chiropractic Research published the results of a case study documenting the successful resolution of Meniere’s disease and the restoration of hearing as well as improvement of a number of additional symptoms in a patient under chiropractic care.

The National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD), which is part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) of the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, defines Meniere’s Disease by saying, “Meniere’s disease is a disorder of the inner ear that causes severe dizziness (vertigo), ringing in the ears (tinnitus), hearing loss, and a feeling of fullness or congestion in the ear. Meniere’s disease usually affects only one ear.”

The NIDCD notes that this condition currently affects approximately 615,000 individuals in the United States and that 45,500 new cases are diagnosed each year. The condition can occur at any age but is most common between 40 and 60 years of age.

In this case, a 59-year-old woman went to the chiropractor in hopes of getting help with a number of serious health issues. At that time, the woman was suffering with extreme vertigo, ringing in the ears (tinnitus), left ear hearing loss with a feeling of fullness in her left ear, as well as pressure in her head just behind her forehead that she described as a “fogginess in her brain.”

Her history revealed that three months prior she was at work when suddenly she had an extreme attack of vertigo that sent her to her knees. For the next three months the woman was unable to get out of bed or stand without assistance. Because of the severity of her condition, the woman was unable to work and lost her job. She also could not drive or exercise and all areas of her daily life were affected.

She went to an ENT medical specialist where she was diagnosed with Meniere’s Disease and was treated with oral steroids and a series of three steroid injections in her left ear. None of the medical care gave the woman any relief. As a last resort, the woman and her husband decided to see if chiropractic could help.

When the woman arrived at the chiropractic office, she was hunched over and needed her husband’s assistance to get around. A chiropractic examination and x-rays were performed. Based on the examination and x-rays, the chiropractor determined that a subluxation was present in the woman’s upper neck, specifically the first neck vertebrae known as the atlas. With this information, a specific form of a chiropractic adjustment was rendered in the woman’s neck to address the atlas subluxation.

The results of the chiropractic adjustment were instantaneous. After her first adjustment, the woman was able to get off the table all on her own and walk around the room without help. She was also now able to stand on one leg at a time with her eyes closed by herself without swaying.

Over the next ten weeks, the woman reported that her vertigo was gone, her hearing loss improved drastically, and she didn’t have the same fullness in her left ear. Her tinnitus reduced by 80%, and the brain fogginess went from continuous to only occasionally.

The study notes that the woman’s life was drastically changed as she was once again able to go swimming, go for long walks on the beach, perform daily household chores, resulting in a better mood and an overall significantly improved quality of life.
